In photography and in life, I'm drawn to vibrant color, happy energy, natural scenery, and a great story.
My documentary style is influenced by my background as a journalistic portrait photographer. I spent a decade running a thriving wedding and portrait business, which sent me to beautiful destinations around the country to document people's stories. I still do occasional freelance work, but I’m not taking wedding or portrait assignments at this time.
I'm lucky to live in beautiful and dynamic Reston, Virginia, near Washington, D.C. My enthusiasm for this area inspires my website Modern Reston, which covers culture and events in Northern Virginia.
I have a masters degree in Instructional Technology from the University of Virginia, with an emphasis in photography education.
I'm married to a brilliant and hilarious software engineer, and we have two adorable, young children. My perfect day would involve an outdoor adventure with my family, a delicious vegetarian dinner, and a good book or a bad reality show.
My work has been published in several magazines and books, including Newsweek, Photo District News, Popular Photography, the Huffington Post, Wedding Photography: A Guide to Posing, The Cities and Urban Life, Backpacker, OM, Equally Wed, Style Unveiled, Brides,The Knot, and many more. My photographs have also received numerous international awards from the Wedding Photojournalist Association.
